C.O.S.Featured in X-Files episode "Ghost In the Machine"Created by Brad Wilczek, the C.O.S. (or Central operating System) is the nerve center of the Eurisko building in Crystal City, Virginia, running everything from elevators to phones to (evidently) the sinks in the building.When it hears the CEO of the company saying that funding for the C.O.S. project will be terminated, it kills him in an act of self-preservation. After it kills an FBI agent, Wilczek confesses to the murders to deflect military attention from the fact that C.O.S. has gained sentience. Working with Mulder from jail, he codes a virus to destroy the super-computer.
As the episode ends, we see the guts of the C.O.S. system strewn about its control room, being poked and prodded by Department of Defense folks who only have six more hours to study it before they dump the works into a metal shredder. However, nobody has noticed that the few C.O.S. components still assembled have powered themselves back on...
