Viking Women vs. the Sea Serpent (Experiment #317)

With the short "The Home Economics Story"

Starring: Nobody in particular. Directed by Roger Corman.

Plot Summary: A band of nubile ABBA wanna-be's, the women of a Viking villiage decide they need to go in search of their men who disappeared at sea. After taking all of five minutes to craft a sea-worthy vessel out of a log, they hit the open seas with their one token guy, a Willie Ames look-alike who Joel and the Bots call "the Toddmonster" the whole movie. In short order, our buxom lasses find themselves in the middle of a huge storm cobbled together from stock footage, and a suspiciously iguana-like sea serpent.

After the storm, they wash up on the shores of a place populated by S&M loving bath mat wearing heathens - the Grimolt Warriors - who previously captured their men and promptly take the lasses captive. The one black haired Viking woman (who looks quite a bit like Connie Selleca) sells them out during an escape attempt, so the Grimolts decide to burn two young lovers at the stake in a weird god-appeasing test-of-love joan-of-arc moment. Seeing this Connie has a change of heart, and as a Priestess, decides to call down the wrath of the Viking gods on the Grimolt, who promptly unleash some godly hell-fire... um, well, hell-rain and lightning on them.

During the storm, the Grimolt Prince (a very fey prince by the way) gets struck by lightning (what do you expect when you hold up a pole in a storm, duh?). His father, the King Bathmat vows revenge and chases the now escaped Vikings into the sea. The Grimolts and Vikings battle for a while, then a nasty wave hits, and the sock-puppet serpent shows up and eats the bathmat guys. It was so exciting that I forget if the Vikings make it home or not...

Invention Exchange: Joel and the bots create a waffle "iron" which turns waffles into pancakes. The mads bring out a meat re-animator.

Notable Notes:

  • This is the "waffle" episode where Joel re-programs the bots to love waffles, and they sing the waffle song.
  • The short for this episode is a classic - a documentary/recruitment film about majoring in home economics made by Iowa State University. It also appears on the "shorts" tape.
