Week 21 NewsletterSeptember 1, 2009PHONY LEAGUE BASEBALL NEWSLETTERVol. 25, No. 21 PHONY LEAGUE BASEBALL ----------------------------------------------------------------------- The Commish advises that the Week 21 Standings already posted are not official and may well be subject to correction due to some late-added roster changes. Expect an updated set of Week 21 Standings in a day or two. That said, alas, it’s time for the bell to being tolling. Not even a major change in the scoring can save the Scapegoats, who earn the prize of being the first team mathematically eliminated this year. While it still looks like a two-horse race, it’s again pretty unusual to have nine of ten teams still in it this late in the going. Looks like it may be another squeaker this year. Since Labor Day is coming up next Monday, please remember that the waiver date falling on Labor Day does not affect the midnight waiver deadline, nor the deadline for setting your rosters for Week 23. Snooze, lose, etc. etc. etc.
The Player of the Week is Kendry Morales, who continues to make his own MVP argument, Joe Mauer and Mark Teixeira notwithstanding (say, why are they both Foxes?) We have three co-Players of the Week on the Bench this time out: The Carp sat Rod Barajas and his 4 HR and 32 OP and .375 average in favor of Pudge Rodriguez, hitting a miserable .210 (though he did contribute one HR). Also, the Mastodons benched Joe Saunders, with his 1.50 ERA, 1.00 OOBA and 2 Wins, to their regret. Finally, Cubs fans everywhere wonder whence came the Felix Pie of this week, with 3 HR and a .421 batting average. The Potentates obviously smell a fluke, since no one has made a move to pick him up yet. Can’t say as I blame them.
Just the Bo Sox and Instigators, slugging it out in the free agent market. August 27: INSTIGATORS drop Brian Bannister to make room for Justin Morneau; Justin Morneau added to roster. August 28: September 1: The last day to postmark or deliver a waiver claim for the players released in this newsletter is Monday, September 7. If a claim for one or more of those players is postmarked or delivered on or before that date and does not specify whether it is a waiver claim or a free agent claim, it will be considered a waiver claim. Announcements of all free agent and waiver acquisitions are subject to change if a late arriving letter or postcard is received from a team with a superior claim.
