The Commish advises that the Week 21 Standings already posted are not official and may well be subject to correction due to some late-added roster changes. Expect an updated set of Week 21 Standings in a day or two.

That said, alas, it’s time for the bell to being tolling. Not even a major change in the scoring can save the Scapegoats, who earn the prize of being the first team mathematically eliminated this year. While it still looks like a two-horse race, it’s again pretty unusual to have nine of ten teams still in it this late in the going. Looks like it may be another squeaker this year.

Since Labor Day is coming up next Monday, please remember that the waiver date falling on Labor Day does not affect the midnight waiver deadline, nor the deadline for setting your rosters for Week 23. Snooze, lose, etc. etc. etc.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINATIONS:
Team………. Player……………….. BA.. OP….. OA.. Special Achievement
Trade Winds Kendry Morales……. .520. 42…… 1.680. 3 HR, 13 Hits
Kiwis……….. Ian Kinsler………….. .357. 38…… 1.357. 4 SB
Instigators…. Robinson Cano…….. .355. 34…… 1.097. 11 Hits
Trade Winds Derek Jeter…………. .370. 34…… 1.259.

Team………. Pitcher………………. ERA OOBA. PP.. Special Achievement
Ghost Riders Zack Greinke……….. 1.06. 0.47…. 14.5.. 2 Wins
Scapegoats.. Andy Pettitte………... 1.80. 0.67…. 13.5.. 2 Wins

The Player of the Week is Kendry Morales, who continues to make his own MVP argument, Joe Mauer and Mark Teixeira notwithstanding (say, why are they both Foxes?)

We have three co-Players of the Week on the Bench this time out: The Carp sat Rod Barajas and his 4 HR and 32 OP and .375 average in favor of Pudge Rodriguez, hitting a miserable .210 (though he did contribute one HR). Also, the Mastodons benched Joe Saunders, with his 1.50 ERA, 1.00 OOBA and 2 Wins, to their regret. Finally, Cubs fans everywhere wonder whence came the Felix Pie of this week, with 3 HR and a .421 batting average. The Potentates obviously smell a fluke, since no one has made a move to pick him up yet. Can’t say as I blame them.

The last day to postmark or deliver a waiver claim for the players released in this newsletter is Monday, September 7. If a claim for one or more of those players is postmarked or delivered on or before that date and does not specify whether it is a waiver claim or a free agent claim, it will be considered a waiver claim. Announcements of all free agent and waiver acquisitions are subject to change if a late arriving letter or postcard is received from a team with a superior claim.

REMINDER ABOUT FREE AGENT CLAIMS: When claiming a free agent, you must specify whether the player being released is in the lineup or not. The status of the released player is the status on the day before the claim goes into effect, which means in most cases it is the status on the day you send the claim. If the released player is not in the lineup on the day you send the claim, you can just note NIL, which, of course, means not in lineup. If the released player is in your lineup on the day you send the claim, you must report who will replace that player in your lineup. I do not care if you already reported a sub to your “checker.” You must also report the sub in the free agent claim. If it makes it easier to understand, when you make the claim just forget that you have a “checker” for your lineup and pretend that all your substitutions are reported to the person receiving the player claim. Then, report the substitution in the free agent claim.
