AMENDED TO ADD TRANSACTION SEPT. 17th (Ghost Riders drop Beltre, add Olivo)

Suffice it to say that I don’t believe the Phony League has never seen a finish quite like this one. The Kiwis and Ham Fighters are eliminated with just a week to go, leaving four teams still alive, and three of them within TWO points of the lead. The unpredictability of the final week of play will probably have a big part in who takes away the world’s gaudiest trophy. Every inning, every AB, every hit, and every stolen base is likely to be critical now, and then there’s always the threat of penalties if your stud batters and pitchers take the week off. Who will triumph and who will melt down? Let’s just say that the Ghost Riders batters picked a very poor time to go 2-for-52….

FREE AGENT DEADLINE: The last day to send or deliver a claim for a free agent is the day before the last day that a game is played from the American League 162-game schedule. If the American League schedule ends on Sunday, September 28, as scheduled, the last day to send or deliver a free agent claim is Saturday, September 27. The date would be extended only if a game from the 162-game schedule gets played after September 28.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK NOMINATIONS:
Team………. Player……………….. BA.. OP….. OA.. Special Achievement
Kiwis……….. Prince Fielder………. .462. 46…… 1.769. 3 HR, 12 Hits
Ham Fighter David DeJesus……... .462. 41…… 1.577 2 HR, 12 Hits

Team………. Pitcher………………. ERA OOBA. PP.. Special Achievement
Kiwis……….. Gil Meche…………… 2.77. 1.15… 12.5... 2 Wins

The Player of the Week is Prince Fielder.

The weirdest line of the week belongs to Brad Ziegler of the Foxes. Ordinarily, you’d expect bad results from a 5.79 ERA and an OOBA of 2.143. But as an example of the Foxes being in the right place at the right time and turning that into 18 PRP, Ziegler turned that hideous line into 2 Wins and 2 Saves. Huh?

Players released in this newsletter cannot be claimed unless an American League game from the 162-game schedule is played on or after September 30. If such a game is played on or after September 30, the last day to postmark or deliver a waiver claim for the players released in this newsletter is Monday, September 29. If a claim for one or more of those players is postmarked or delivered on or before that date and does not specify whether it is a waiver claim or a free agent claim, it will be considered a waiver claim. Announcements of all free agent and waiver acquisitions are subject to change if a late arriving letter or postcard is received from a team with a superior claim.

REMINDER ABOUT FREE AGENT CLAIMS: When claiming a free agent, you must specify whether the player being released is in the lineup or not. The status of the released player is the status on the day before the claim goes into effect, which means in most cases it is the status on the day you send the claim. If the released player is not in the lineup on the day you send the claim, you can just note NIL, which, of course, means not in lineup. If the released player is in your lineup on the day you send the claim, you must report who will replace that player in your lineup. Our commissioner does not care if you already reported a sub to your “checker.” You must also report the sub in the free agent claim. If it makes it easier to understand, when you make the claim just forget that you have a “checker” for your lineup and pretend that all your substitutions are reported to the person receiving the player claim. Then, report the substitution in the free agent claim.
